Erepublik is a new world of sorts. It's a text-based MMO. It has everything the real world has, an economy, politics, media, military, and so on.


The economy is strikingly realistic. You have two separate kinds of currency, GOLD (which can be converted to anything else) and your nation's currency (USD, CZK, etc.) Conversion rates change, the economy inflates, and all of those little details gives Erepublik a kind of living sense to it. It's good if you just want to be able to appreciate the work put into it, or if you want to set aside your real income and become an obsessed freak, following every economic move that happens. You also need to hold down a job by posting a kind of resume, and hoping someone chooses you for their company (you can create your own company, but you won't be able to afford it when you first start).


I haven't really kept up with politics, mainly because it seems a little pointless. Apparently, real users get chosen as congressmen, and eventually presidents. The president of a nation has direct control over a lot of the things happening. When you start, you can pick a political party related to your nation and contribute, but I've more or less chosen a party and left it at that. It seems, like in reality, the political parties promise a lot and give nothing.


Again, I haven't paid much attention here, but I do know wars are common in Erepublik (we have two or three going on right now), and I believe Norway just invaded and absorbed Finland. The presidents of nations are pretty smart, though, so there aren't crazy invasions every second.

You can read and write newspapers, basically. They have to be related to Erepublik and it's happenings, but some of the newspapers are pretty interesting.

Here's how it works - you can sign up and wait a couple months for them to invite you to the beta, or get invited by an already existing member and start playing right away. I was invited by a member on another forum, and they all started in the Czech Republic (so they could form their own political party as well as companies so they could all have jobs, etc.), so that's where I'm at. If enough people here are interested, we could start our own party/company, etc., but we all have to be in the same nation, and moving costs a lot of money. The page is still in English if you join as a Czech, but your currency is CZK. Right now, actually, I think CZK is in bad condition compared to other nation's currency, but whatever.

Every play has 5 invites when they register, and I already used one, leaving me four. Post your e-mail here (or PM me) and I'll invite you, but if you're invited by a GMG member, you HAVE, let me repeat, HAVE to use at least 2 or 3 of your invites for other GMG members, so we can keep this spreading.

Again, the game is really absorbing. There's a ton to do (or at least read), and it's really difficult (you're thrown in with no instructions, direction, goals, etc.) and I'm still trying to get familiar with a lot of the features. A lot of people really get into the game, and take it very seriously, but it's still fun to just play every once in a while (you do have to keep up with it, though, because your player can die).

Conclusion
So, yeah, this could be something great that the whole forum can get in on, or it can be totally ignored and I'll look like an idiot.  Either way, I think it'd be a pretty cool thing if we could get everyone from here in the game and in our own political party, or at least start a company so we can all have steady jobs.
